Protection Application:

SIDAC devices are used in the relaxation oscillator circuits to provide sharp current pulses which are often run through transformers to provide high voltage discharges. The Multi-Pulse SIDAC devices are used in the HID lamp ignition circuit to generate high-voltage pulses (3 minimum per 50/60Hz half-cycle) required to start a metal halide lamp.

Solution Description:

The axial DO-15X package K2401GSUB is most often used in 220/240VAC circuits.

Companion Solutions:

Multi-Pulse SIDAC devices are also available in through-hole TO-202 packages

Application Warnings:

Generally not suitable for circuit protection. SIDACtor devices are better suited for protection applications.
