Littelfuse Introduces First 60VDC Subminiature Surface Mount Fuse With Current Rating of 40A
The new 456 Series 40A fuse offers high-amp circuit protection in a tiny package compatible with faster pick and place electronic assembly processes2009-05-14 09:00:00
CHICAGO, Illinois, May 14, 2009
– Littelfuse (NASDAQ: LFUS) today announced the launch of a 40A fast-acting subminiature surface mount fuse to serve the need for smaller embedded device protection of higher current applications. The 456 series 40A NANO2® fuse is the first 60VDC subminiature surface mount fuse in the market. It is RoHS-compliant, Lead-free and Halogen-free.
Though it measures a small 12 mm X 4.5 mm X 4.5 mm, the 456 Series 40A device offers interrupting ratings up to 600A at 60VDC with high melting I2 t value of 454.51 A2 secs.
This high-amp circuit protection device in a tiny package is designed for situations where applications require an ultra-small device profile with higher ampere rating.
Conceived as a customized solution for a world leading web server manufacturer, this product is now being offered globally.
In addition to serving as an embedded secondary protection for PC servers, the 456 Series 40A fuse is also targeted at protecting PC server power supplies, voltage regulator modules and cooling fans, as well as base station power supplies, mass storage systems, automotive electronics and other higher current systems.
The 456 Series 40A fuse enables circuit engineers to design-in reliable primary and secondary over-current protection with a single miniature fuse. Beyond the benefit of space-saving design, this fuse is regarded as a more stable, reliable and cost-effective alternative to using similar smaller-amp NANO2® fuses in tandem. Prior to the introduction of 456 Series 40A fuse, the dual-fuse method was the only way to achieve circuit protection for 40A using NANO2® fuses.
