Arc-Flash Calculator - System Voltage

System Voltage

Phase-to-phase, three-phase voltage at the point being evaluated. Default value is 600 volts but other voltages may be selected. Depending on available short-circuit current and arc-gap, 208 and 240 V system faults may self-extinguish as voltage passes through zero. Tests performed in the development of IEEE 1584 indicated that arcs of 208 volts or less were difficult to maintain unless there were very high available short-circuit currents. However, 208 and 240-volt faults should not be ignored since many of these systems are connected to utility networks with available fault currents exceeding 150 kA.
