Littelfuse gas discharge tubes are used in a number of applications. Datacom, telecom, satellite, computer, industrial, and automotive circuit protection are just a few of the product areas that use Littelfuse gas discharge tubes.

Gas Discharge Tubes: Littelfuse Technology

Littelfuse Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) are designed for use as Primary or Secondary protectors on the telephone copper wire (Tip and Ring) environment such as MDF, TLPU, Multiplexers and Line card applications. The high surge current ratings of Littelfuse gas discharge tubes make them particularly appropriate for lightning surge suppression. Littelfuse gas discharge tubes may also be used in other suitable applications including alarms, remote sensors, CATV, and broadband electronics where high current surges exist and minimal capacitive loading is desired.

Littelfuse gas discharge tubes (or gas plasma arrestors) are available in axial leaded, surface mount, radial leaded, and special packages. Littelfuse gas discharge tubes feature high surge ratings and very low capacitance. Littelfuse GDT families include 5000 Amp, 10000 Amp, 20000 Amp, and 40000 Amp, and provide excellent response to fast rising transients. Littelfuse also offers a range of Broadband optimized gas discharge tubes, featuring very low insertion loss, even up to 1.5Ghz allowing them to be used to protect the antenna input of a satellite set top box, as well as the new generation of broadband electronics.

Littelfuse Gas Discharge Tubes: Trigger Tube Technology

The gas plasma trigger switches are 2 -terminal; bi-directional voltage triggered switching devices. The technology affords very fast switching speeds, allowing for significantly better di/dt values compared to those available when using silicon devices. These devices also allow for reduced step-up transformer sizes, saving size, weight, and money. Triggering currents of 3mA, 5mA, 10mA, or 20mA may be specified. Sensitive gate triacs are capable of controlling AC load currents from 0.8 A to 8 A rms and can withstand operating voltages from 200V to 600V.
