CHICAGO, IL - October 23, 2012Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, today announced its TMOV®25S and TMOV®34S varistors are a winner of the 2012 Chicago Innovation Awards.

The winners were announced at an event held at Chicago’s Harris Theater on Monday, October 22, with more than 1000 business and civic leaders attending.  The Chicago Innovation Awards, celebrating its 11th year, is the Chicago region’s foremost recognition of the most innovative new products or services brought to market or to public service each year.

“The Littelfuse TMOV25S and TMOV34S thermally-protected varistors are circuit protection devices that enhance the reliability and safety level of numerous commercial and consumer devices. The innovative design prevents damage that is caused by dangerous levels of surge energy from lightning strikes and other overvoltage conditions,” said Deepak Nayar, Vice President and General Manager of the Littelfuse Electronics Business Unit.  “The new TMOV technology used in outdoor LED lighting applications and solar power installations optimizes their design for safety and long-term reliability.”

“The new products and services brought to market in the Chicago region each year represent the most important economic engine driving the new economy,” said Thomas D. Kuczmarski, who co-founded the awards with Chicago journalist Dan Miller.  “The economy is challenging but each nominee believes the simple truth that a powerful new product will find a rewarding market and each has the courage to pursue their vision.”

“This innovation reflects the special ability Littelfuse has to engage with customers to understand their requirements and help them develop unique solutions that benefit the consumer and protect their investments,” said Gordon Hunter, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Littelfuse, Inc. “We are driven to continue this commitment to developing innovative, leading-edge components that protect devices in the best way possible to ensure both safety and reliability.”

Gordon Hunter will join the other nine winners of this year’s Chicago Innovation Awards in ringing the NASDAQ bell in New York City on February 25.  “This is one way of carrying the message of Chicago innovation to other parts of the nation,” said Luke Tanen, Executive Director of the Awards.  The winners will also meet with Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to discuss their winning product or service and ways to advance innovation in Illinois.
