TD & Chip Resettable

TD and chip resettable PPTC fuses provide short circuit and overcurrent protection in small automotive motors such as those for power windows and seat adjusters. "TD" stands for "terminal device." This indicates the polymer positive temperature coefficient devices install as close to motor windings as possible. That placement ensures the resettable automotive fuses trip quickly when overcurrent events or short circuits threaten to cause thermal damage. Since electric motors inside vehicles take all shapes and sizes, Littelfuse works with manufacturers to custom design TD and chip resettable fuses for each application.

TD & Chip Resettable Information Center

The TD (Terminal Devices) and Chip PolySwitch® devices are designed for use in small and medium automotive motor applications, like power windows, door lock motors, and lumbar pump motors. These devices help eliminate problems caused by abnormal function or misuse, such as a motor stall or short circuit. The TD and Chip devices are normally custom made to fit into the motor housing. By mounting them close to the motor windings, they will trip more quickly when the motor windings are hot and therefore closer to being damaged, and more slowly when the motor windings are cold.
