Phase leg IGBT modules serve as solid state switches in applications requiring low-loss fast ac–dc or dc–dc switching and short circuit ruggedness. Pairing one of the insulated-gate transistor bipolar transistors with a HiPerFRED diode allows the module to act as a chopper switch. Common uses for these non-punch through IGBTs made by Littelfuse subsidiary IXYS include induction heaters and uninterruptible power supplies.
